I have worked in Marin County since 1986. In 1994, I developed a successful plumbing heating and air conditioning service company and sold it to a national chain in 1999 (doing $7 billion in sales). I have kept a group of loyal customers since the sale of the business. My new service business has developed quickly. It is mostly from referrals and excellent online reviews. I am a working technician.
Currently I hold contractors licenses in five trades.

The Marin County Environment
California is a beautiful place to live. Marin County located on the North side of the Golden Gate Bridge is a spectacular County. Marin offers mild weather, lots of sunshine, and great outdoor activities. It is a very high median annual income County at $89,000. Media home prices are high. Home rental prices are high as well.
Typically young trades people in Marin cannot afford to buy a home. The mild climate (5-month heating season, short AC season) makes it essential to have a company that is strong in residential plumbing for the slower times of the year.
The persons I am searching for are currently employed. They are valued employees in good companies. They will have excellent references, and their current employer will be sorry to see them leave. They must be multi-trade technicians. They are looking for broader horizons. They would like to own a business one day. They may be living in a part of the US that does not suit their lifestyle. They want to live and own a home in the San Francisco Bay Area. They take pride in their skilled work. They may be frustrated with the focus on sales figures and performance which seems to have become the norm in the service Industry.
Realities of Service Providers in Marin County
Too often companies are top heavy on management, top heavy on overhead, and lacking in truly skilled technicians. It forces companies to push sales, and look towards their own best interest before the customer’s best interest. Controlling overhead and growth is essential to providing a base to work from to provide excellent service and great customer satisfaction.
The labor pool in Marin County is very limited due to the high cost of living, and the lack of apprentice trained technicians. I believe a good business mode is a small company of well trained multi-trade technicians. A larger company with high overhead, and poorly qualified workers is consistently searching for new customers, and making corrections to poor quality workmanship.
I truly enjoy what I do. I hope to work with partners that feel the same way. I believe we can continue to build a company that will have a waiting list of loyal customers wanting us to do work. I want workers to be able to buy homes in the place they work. I am a true believer in preventive maintenance and repair. It builds good relationships for future work.
